A global magazine based in London has crowned Sri Lanka as the top spot for solo female travelers in 2024.
Time Out magazine has declared the Indian Ocean island as the ideal starting point for women travelers looking to explore South Asia.
The magazine highlights Sri Lanka’s appeal to backpackers and its perfect size for a week or month-long exploration, including visits to ancient UNESCO-listed sites like Dambulla and Sigiriya, and tours of tea plantations in Nuwara Eliya.
It also mentions the serene beaches of Arugam Bay, Mirissa, and Hikkaduwa, offering beachfront hostels, surfing, and delicious local cuisine for some relaxing downtime.
Portugal secured the second spot on the list, followed by Czechia, Japan, Guatemala, Vietnam, Australia, Greece, and New Zealand.
Time Out Group, known for its city guides and recommendations, started as a London-centric publication in 1968 and has now expanded its reach to cover 333 cities in 59 countries across the globe.
