Sri Lanka has greenlit a project proposal aimed at introducing digitalization into its school system, with funding secured from the Chinese government, according to a statement released by the government.

The initiative is set to introduce smart boards into classrooms, establishing a robust infrastructure for interactive learning. Additionally, provisions will include a centralized data center under the Ministry of Education to oversee these activities, along with the setup of studio and conference rooms.

This project is expected to usher in a hybrid learning approach, integrating online, electronic media, and traditional face-to-face methods. By leveraging these diverse resources, the aim is to address challenges posed by teacher shortages.

A comprehensive feasibility study has already been conducted to assess the viability of the project. Following the submission of the feasibility study report, the Cabinet has granted approval for the Minister of Education’s proposal to proceed with project implementation.
