Sri Lanka Emerging as South Asia’s Travel Star

Sri Lanka has joined the list of the most visited countries in August 2025, welcoming 198,235 foreign tourists during the month, according to Travel And Tour World (TTW). This reflects a 20.4% year-on-year increase compared to August 2024, showcasing renewed global confidence in the island nation as a travel destination.

India remained the largest source market, contributing 46,473 tourists (23.4% of total arrivals). Other top contributors included:

United Kingdom – 19,764 visitors

Germany – 12,500 visitors

China – 12,294 visitors

France – 10,495 visitors

Between January 1 and August 31, 2025, Sri Lanka has welcomed 1,566,523 international visitors. India led overall arrivals with 325,595 tourists, followed by the United Kingdom (151,141) and Russia (118,916).

TTW noted that this strong performance highlights Sri Lanka’s resilience and growing appeal as a premier travel hub in South Asia. Strategic international marketing campaigns, along with the government’s commitment to sustainability, eco-tourism, and cultural preservation, have played a key role in attracting travelers.
