Sri Lanka Sets USD 2.5 BnTea Export Goal by 2030

Minister of Plantation Samantha Vidyaratna, announced that Sri Lanka aims to generate USD 2.5 billion in revenue from tea exports by the year 2030.

Speaking on the sector’s future, the Minister highlighted that in 2024, Sri Lanka produced 262 million kilograms of made tea. The government’s plan is to increase this figure to 400 million kilograms by 2030.

Tea export earnings last year stood at USD 1.4 billion, and the Minister emphasized that achieving the 2030 target will require collective effort from plantation companies, smallholder tea growers, and estate workers.

The Minister stressed that this transformation is possible with commitment and collaboration across the industry.
