Unable to pay debts, Hela Apparel files for winding up

Hela Apparel Holdings PLC has announced that it has filed an application before the Commercial High Court seeking a court-ordered winding up of the company after its Board concluded that it is unable to pay its debts due to continuing liquidity constraints.

In a filing to the Colombo Stock Exchange, the company said its Board reviewed the financial position of the group, including its realisable assets, liabilities, liquidity levels, indebtedness, expected cash flows and creditor obligations before determining that Hela Apparel Holdings PLC and its subsidiaries, Hela Clothing (Private) Limited and Foundation Garments (Private) Limited, were unable to continue their businesses.

The Board resolved on August 4 to seek a court-ordered winding up under the Companies Act No. 7 of 2007, with applications filed before the Commercial High Court on August 5. The two subsidiaries have also submitted separate winding-up applications.

TicketsMinistry Becomes the First Sri Lankan Built Ticketing Platform to Launch in the Gulf

Sri Lankan online ticketing platform TicketsMinistry has launched operations in the United Arab Emirates, becoming the first Sri Lankan-built ticketing platform to enter the Gulf market.

Developed by Tickets M (Pvt) Ltd, TicketsMinistry has sold over 500,000 tickets across more than 1,000 events in Sri Lanka and works with over 600 event partners. The platform allows organisers to sell tickets online, manage entry and track sales in real time.

With the UAE launch, organisers of concerts, cultural shows, sporting events and community gatherings in the Emirates can now use the platform. The move is also expected to give the UAE’s large Sri Lankan community easier access to Sri Lankan concerts and cultural events.

“This is a proud moment for Sri Lankan innovation. Our platform was built by Sri Lankan talent, and it is now competing in one of the world’s most dynamic event markets. The UAE is the first step in our plan to grow TicketsMinistry into a global ticketing brand,” said Bhanuka Weerasinghe, Director of TicketsMinistry.

The company said it plans to expand into further international markets following the UAE launch.

“Sri Lanka has my heart,” says youngest traveler to visit 195 countries

Cameron Mofid, widely recognized as the youngest person to have visited all 195 countries, has praised Sri Lanka, describing it as a destination offering diverse experiences despite its relatively small size.

Speaking in a podcast episode shared on his social media, Mofid said he preferred his experience in Sri Lanka to those in Nepal and Malaysia.

“Sri Lanka has my heart. It’s like lush landscapes, beautiful. So much nature, wildlife, very underrated,” Mofid said.

“Sri Lanka is awesome. It’s so small but there is so much to do and see, it’s inexpensive and the people are awesome,” he added.

He also said he did not encounter pollution or scams during his time in Sri Lanka, unlike some other countries he visited.

Colombo, Sri Lanka – POP Culture Festival 2026 concluded successfully at Port City Colombo, marking a turning point for Sri Lanka’s entertainment industry, and setting a new benchmark for world-class festivals in the country. With an international EDM DJ line-up who have all performed on Tomorrowland stages, it was a World Class line-up performing on a massive World Class stage.

Held on the 28th and 29th August, the two-day festival brought together an outstanding lineup led by world-renowned artists Alan Walker, Nicky Romero and South Korean pop (K-pop) sensation CHUNG HA. They were joined by several leading international and Sri Lankan artists, creating a powerful celebration of music, youth culture, creativity and live entertainment.

POP Culture Festival 2026 was brought to life by ShowUp Entertainment and Elephant House Cream Soda, united by a shared vision to elevate Sri Lankan entertainment, empower the country’s next generation of talent, and to create a platform capable of connecting them with the world.
